Artist's Statement:
Objects that are odd, unusual or uncharacteristic for their locale are of great interest to me. I am captivated by items that are out of place, unusual shapes and patterns, and in naturally created symmetry. I am also drawn to movement and detail, specifically the naturally occurring detail in animals and in the outdoors.
I am also captivated by color. Any color that draws attention to itself or deflects attention from itself on to another color, creating a visual tug-of-war grabs my attention. I try to make my work spirited and spiritual, as well as energetic and engaging.
I like to photograph the unexpected as much as I like to encounter the unexpected. I also try to incorporate the rule of thirds into my work, such that each third of my work is interesting on its own, complimenting each other, or challenging each other. And I like to challenge myself to find juxtapositions that are extraordinary.
