Artist's Statement:
Although primarily a painter, I have been exploring the monotype process or "painterly print" for over ten years. When I learned the monotype process, I worked on wet paper with oil based inks. I would work on the plate using rollers, then wipe away areas and roll or brush ink back in until I felt it was ready. I would send the plate through the press only one time, hoping for the best. Over the past few years I have switched to Akua water based inks. These inks make it possible to print on dry paper. Because the paper is dry, it is much easier to make multiple runs through the press in order to develop layers of color and image. The richness of expressive color, light, and imagery from the natural world inspire my work. The images, exaggerated in form and scale, interact and evolve within an atmospheric landscape space.
