Pricing your work.
Many artists ask us what is an appropriate amount to charge for their art and this is a tricky question. There is no correct answer. However, here are some things to consider when deciding on your price:
Most artists tend to undervalue what they do. It's understandable as the place where your art comes from is something so uniquely you that you tend to take it for granted. Plus, years of being that "different" person can mess with your ego and your self-esteem. So, price your artwork based on the following factors, not on your self-esteem.
Factors to consider in pricing:
· How much time did it take to create your artwork, frame it, ship it, look for juried art competitions online, filling out forms, reading emails such as these, sending emails, prepping jpegs, etc. In other words, you should be paid for your time.
· We will deduct 40% commission, so please add that into your final price.
· How much did your medium cost? Price out the paint, the canvas, the print, the frame and the box you delivered it in and the cost of shipping or delivery.
· How much experience do you have? How many years have you been creating? How "big" is your name?
· How unique and amazing is your artwork?
· How much is going to kill you to lose that artwork? Or how much do you really want to get rid of it?
· What kind of reputation do you want to have? Do you want to be considered a high end artist or an affordable artist?
